CareSource Foundation Awards Grants

 

       DAYTON, Ohio, October 21, 2008 -- The CareSource Foundation recently announced its latest round of health care grant awards.  The Foundation focuses funding on three key areas including issues of the uninsured, critical trends in children’s health, and community health issues.  Awards totaling $177,000 have been granted to the following 20 organizations:

  • Children’s Defense Fund:  $10,000 grant to expand the Women’s Advocacy Action Network that brings leaders and policymakers together to advocate on behalf of children’s issues statewide 
  • Community Foundation of Lorain County:  $20,000 grant to support strategies for providing healthcare to 30,000 uninsured adults and 3,500 uninsured child in Lorain County
  • Community Mercy Health Partners: $7,500 grant to provide prescription assistance to low-income, uninsured and underinsured residents of Clark and Champaign counties
  • Daybreak:  $10,000 grant to provide defibrillators for the new emergency shelter siring nearly 1,000 youth and young adults each year
  • Dayton Area Families for Effective Autism Treatment (DAFEAT):  $5,000 grant to provide early intervention services, low-cost family workshops, resource networking and education support for families of children with autism
  • FACES of Stark County:  $7,500 grant to provide advocacy, mentoring and linkage to health services for low-income families in the Stark County (Akron/Canton) region
  • Family Violence Prevention Center of Greene County:  $5,000 grant to support domestic abuse residential and prevention/support programs
  • Hospice of Dayton:  $10,000 grant to support the indigent care fund for women facing end-of-life financial issues
  • Life Resource Centre:  $5,000 to support pre-natal health programs for young, low-income women
  • Lutheran Social Services of NW Ohio:  $5,000 grant to support “The Lodge” emergency housing and short-term shelter for women with behavioral health diagnoses
  • March of Dimes Foundation:  $10,000 grant to support the National Prematurity Campaign to address the rise in premature births and generate action to reduce the trend. 
  • Mary Scott Nursing Center:  $12,000 grant to support wellness, fitness screenings and physical therapy for senior adults
  • Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio:  $5,000 grant to support the Butler County Prenatal Health Center and promote healthy birth outcomes
  • Prevent Blindness Ohio:  $18,000 grant to support statewide vision screening for over 200,000 children in Ohio and detect potentially blinding eye diseases at the earliest states
  • Reach Out of Montgomery County:  $15,000 to provide health, outreach and pharmacy services for uninsured individuals in the greater Dayton region
  • Ronald McDonald House:  $9,000 grant to support 100 overnight stays for families of critically ill children
  • St. Vincent de Paul Social Services: $5,000 grant to provide a 14-unit housing program for families who are homeless as the result of mental illness, chemical dependency or physical disabilities
  • Suicide Prevention Center:  $3,000 grant to support “Project Lifesaver” suicide prevention education in grades K-12
  • West Ohio Food Bank:  $5,000 grant to support the “Food Back Pack” weekend meals program for low-income children in Lima City Schools
  • YWCA of Greater Cincinnati:  $8,000 grant to support the breast health program targeting low-income women over age 65 through early detection and health literacy initiatives
