2005 Press Releases

CCM sponsors Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint

OKEMOS, Mich., Dec. 6, 2005 – Community Choice Michigan (CCM), a nonprofit health care plan that serves Medicaid consumers across Michigan, is proud to be a sponsor of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint.

CCM's support will help make possible several events for participating Big Brothers and Sisters, Little Brothers and Sisters, and their families. These events include:

  • Annual Holiday Dinner on Dec. 8, 6 to 8 p.m. at the UAW Local 651 Hall, 3518 Robert T. Longway Blvd., Flint, for "Bigs" and "Littles."
  • Superstar Christmas Party on Dec. 19, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Baker College Student Center, 1050 Bristol Road, Flint, for unmatched "Littles" and their families.
  • Annual Summer Picnic for all "Bigs," "Littles," and their families, to be scheduled in July.

CCM selected Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint for a community partnership grant because both organizations serve much of the same population.  CCM's mission is to provide quality health care to the medically underserved, and almost two-thirds of its members are children.  Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supervised one-to-one relationships. Research consistently shows that Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring helps at-risk youth overcome the many challenges they face.

"We are happy to support such a wonderful organization as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint," said Community Choice Michigan Executive Director Joanne Volovar. "Many Little Brothers and Sisters are members of CCM, so we know the value that this agency provides in improving their lives and opening their horizons for the future."
