Community Choice Michigan named finalist for HealthLeaders Top Teams
OKEMOS, Mich., May 16, 2005 – Community Choice Michigan (CCM), a nonprofit Medicaid managed health care plan, has been named a finalist in HealthLeaders magazine’s search for Top Leadership Teams in the Health Plan category.
Other finalists in the category included Harvard Pilgram Health Care of Wellesley, Mass., and Partnership Health Plan of California, based in Fairfield.
CCM was recognized for the outstanding teamwork among its senior management in bringing the plan out of rehabilitation and winning a Medicaid contract from the Michigan Department of Community Health that allowed it not only to continue serving 28 counties across the state but to move into 10 additional counties.
CCM is the only plan in Michigan to emerge successfully from rehabilitation, the equivalent of bankruptcy. It did so in just over a year under the administration of CareSource Management Group, a Medicaid health care services company based in Dayton, Ohio.
“It was such an honor to be recognized by HealthLeaders for the teamwork it took between CareSource Management Group and Community Choice Michigan to bring CCM out of rehabilitation,” said Karl V. Kovacs, CEO of Community Choice Michigan. “We could not have done this without support from our sponsoring Federally Qualified Health Centers, the Health Resources Services Administration, and the Michigan Department of Community Health.”
Senior leaders named in the award application include (from CareSource Management Group) Pamela B. Morris, president and CEO; Janet Grant, senior vice president of business development and regulatory affairs; Michael Knellinger, chief information officer; and (from CCM), Karl V. Kovacs, CEO; Mark Hillery, director of provider relations and marketing; Paul Dake, medical director; Mary Anne Sesti, director of regulatory affairs; Kimberly Saxton, finance director; and Carla Parkes, director of care management.
The HealthLeaders Top Leadership Teams program honors senior health leaders whose teamwork makes health care better. The purpose is to 1) celebrate the outstanding teamwork that occurs in health care organizations each day by senior leadership groups; 2) share what makes top leadership teams successful, and 3) encourage other health leaders to learn from the best practices of top leadership teams.
