CSMG expands, realigns executive staff
Changes made to prepare for future growth, diversification
DAYTON, Ohio, Oct. 29, 2004 – CareSource Management Group, which administers Ohio’s largest Medicaid managed health care plan, has significantly expanded and realigned its executive staff to prepare for future growth and diversification. Among other changes, CSMG has hired a new Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Human Resources, while transitioning internal staff to the roles of Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Regulatory Affairs, and Vice President of Quality Improvement.
CSMG is pleased to announce it has hired Leslie Walker Naamon as Chief Operating Officer. Naamon will be responsible for CareSource’s Service and Operations. Areas she will oversee include the processing environment for enrollment and claims; service call center operations for members and providers; network operations for hospital, physician and ancillary contracting and relations; and marketing activities.
Naamon’s mission is to advance CSMG’s vision for a customer-centric service model by improving member and provider relationships through the delivery of enhanced services and operational efficiencies. By leveraging the company’s robust technological infrastructure, Naamon will fully integrate best-practice business processes to sustain CSMG’s long-term competitive advantage in its marketplaces.
Naamon has more than 14 years of senior management and executive-level experience in sales, negotiation, contract and operations in the managed care and health care industry. Most recently she was vice president of network operations and strategic planning at Horizon Mercy, a 400,000-member health care plan in Sexton, N.J.. She has a bachelor’s degree from Yale College and an M.B.A. from Rutgers Business School.
CSMG is also pleased to announce that it has hired Nancy Brady for the newly created position of Vice President of Human Resources. Brady’s mission is to enhance the working environment for CSMG employees while developing and managing the company’s human resources strategy and infrastructure for rapid growth. Her goals are to leverage technology and create new processes that make human resources more user-friendly; to find, integrate, develop and retain the best talent, giving depth and breadth of expertise; and to increase recognition of CSMG as an employer of choice in the communities where we operate.
Brady has already undertaken a key initiative, the Workforce Engagement Assessment, a program that solicits employee feedback about company culture – what works, what could be improved, and how we define the mission, vision and values of CareSource Management Group. This feedback will be used not only to improve the work environment, but to help promote positive productivity and business results.
Brady has 23 years of experience in human resources, with expertise in talent management, organizational development and learning, and compensation and benefits. She comes to CSMG from the Relizon Company in Dayton, where she was director of human resources. She also spent 12 years at LexisNexis in Dayton, where she worked her way up to director of human resources, and seven years in human resources at Standard Register. Nancy has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and a master’s from Wright State University, where she is also working on an M.BA.
Besides hiring two new executive staff members, CSMG has transitioned Bob Bair to the newly created role of Chief Financial Officer. Bair is in charge of the Finance and Administrative Services departments, overseeing CSMG’s accounting records, managing cash and investments, preparing financial statements, and supervising facility management for one of the area’s fastest-growing companies. Bair has 20 years of experience developing managed health care systems, with particular experience in finances, claims and networks. He has a bachelor’s degree and M.B.A. from Miami University in Oxford.
Salli Duncan has been promoted to Vice President of Quality Improvement, responsible for credentialing providers to practice with CSMG, overseeing accreditation of CSMG’s health plans, and ensuring that CSMG meets and exceeds state and national standards for quality of care. One of Duncan’s most important initiatives is to lead the accreditation process with the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) for CSMG’s two largest health care plans, CareSource in Ohio and Community Choice Michigan. During this process, she has implemented process improvements, increased organizational discipline, and coordinated policies and procedures across CSMG. Duncan has a bachelor of science in nursing from Miami University of Ohio and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
Janet Grant has also been promoted to Senior Vice President of Business Development and Regulatory Affairs. Grant is responsible for keeping CSMG in compliance with all state regulatory requirements, and for identifying and securing new business opportunities. Among the most important of these opportunities has been CSMG’s contract to administer Community Choice Michigan. Before CSMG took over administration of CCM, the plan had a $6 million deficit, was reporting losses of $1 million a month, and had been ordered into rehabilitation, the equivalent of bankruptcy. CCM has now emerged from rehabilitation – the only plan in Michigan ever to do so successfully – won another Medicaid contract from the state, and is projected to have $10.2 million in reserve by the end of the year. Grant is also overseeing CSMG’s next ventures, including expansion of CareSource into Indiana and marketing of CareSource’s 24-hour nurse hotline to other Medicaid managed care plans.
It has always been CSMG’s practice to examine its organizational structure on a regular basis, especially during periods of high growth. These changes were made as a result of thoughtful discussion among the executive management and board leadership. These changes align with CSMG’s corporate goals and were made to strengthen its organizational framework. They reflect CSMG’s dedication to providing solid corporate leadership in all areas – an important part of establishing a high-performance culture.
